On the eve of Birth Centenary of Com. Priya Gupta (Born on 21.07.1921), you are all requested to give tribute to a valiant fighter in a befitting manner.
Com. PRIYA GUPTA was born in 21.7.1921, in Golla Barisal, In Bangladesh. He got his appointment as an Assistant Electrical Foreman in the Bengal Assam Railway in 1943. He was associated with the Bengal- Assam Railway Employees Association.

In the 1962 General Election Com. Priya Gupta was elected as Member of Parliament from Katihar Constituency in Bihar State on Praja Socialist Party ticket defeating the Congress leader SitaramKesari. Though he belonged to PSP, he never attempted to inject his political philosophy in the trade union movement.
He spearheaded Railwaymen’s struggles and successfully led the strikes in 1960, 1968 and 1974. His contribution in railway strike is unforgettable and will always be remembered.
He was the General Secretary, N.F.RailwayMazdoor Union, elected as General Secretary in the Jamalpur convention of AIRF in 1968 and became President of AIRF in 1976 which post he held till his sudden demise. He was President, Chittaranjan Locomotive Works Railwaymen’s Union and also President, Eastern Railwaymen’s Union. He was also Member of the Railway Section Council of the International Transport Workers Federation, London.
After devoting his full life in trade union movement, Com. Priya Gupta took his last breath on 12.8.1979 and it would be a great service towards our warrior to hold programmes in remembrance of our comrade during his birth centenary year.
